Optical Networking Digital Symposium

2021 Optical Networking Symposium: A Foundation for the Next Decade

In this Light Reading online event, leading optical networking analysts from Heavy Reading will discuss the most significant trends driving optical networking in 2021 and beyond. This symposium will be moderated by Sterling Perrin, Sr. Principal Analyst, Heavy Reading and Simon Stanley, Analyst-at-Large, Heavy Reading.

10:00 AM Session One - 400ZR and 400ZR+ Pluggable Optics for Telecom

400 Gbit/s pluggables have been talked about for a while, but with commercial availability of 400ZR and 400ZR+ modules, 2021 marks the year that the market moves into reality. The implications of 400G pluggable optics are huge for optical architectures and for the optical networking supply chain as a whole. This session will bring the industry up to date in what will undoubtedly be a landmark year for optical networks.

11.45 AM Session Two - Optical Networks for Advances 5G Services

With 3GPP Release 16 standardization, 5G is entering the era of Phase 2 advanced services including ultra-reliable and low latency (URLLC) and massive machine-type communications (mMTC) – the use cases that are most often envisioned when imagining the future of 5G. These advanced 5G use cases, however, require advanced transport networks to support them. Advanced optical networks will play a crucial role.

This session looks at:

  • Meeting capacity and performance requirements for packetized fronthaul
  • 5G drivers for packet and optical convergence
  • The role of 100G coherent optics in 5G transport
  • Next-gen PON architectures for backhaul and midhaul
